In this article, we want to talk about an open-source learning management system (LMS) Moodle, that we recently implemented for one of our clients.

What is Moodle?

Moodle is one of the most popular open-source LMS. It was created in 2002 with the idea of facilitating online studies and attainment of degrees online. However, it is used not only by academic institutions but can be perfectly applied in business settings as well.

The system provides powerful learner-centric tools and collaborative environment that support both teaching and learning. Moreover, simple and flexible user interface and well-documented resources make Moodle easy to use for educators and students. It was translated into more than 120 languages and became truly international.

Moodle is web-based and can perform on systems like Mac OS, Windows, Linux, Unix, basically any operating system that supports the usage of PHP. It is also available as an app on iOS and Android-based devices, which makes participation in the courses possible anywhere and anytime.

Modules and plugins

The platform has modular and interoperable design, which allows developers to build plugins to enhance system capabilities and widen the possibilities of the core product. Currently, already more than 1400 plugins are available to the community for free. And users are encouraged to create and share new ones.
