Online education grows very rapidly. It became so popular that already overtook traditional in-person classes.
Many companies launch their online educational platforms both as a marketing tool to educate customers, as well as a place for employees’ education.
Some examples of customer education include a bookkeeping service that organizes lessons about taxes, fines, reporting; or a publishing house that teaches parents to support their kids’ education through games; another example is large software enterprises offering free programming and design courses with a goal of general regional development where the program is available. There are plenty of other instances, and all of them prove their efficiency in keeping existing clients and attracting new ones.
As for the employees’ online education, companies may get lots of benefits from it too:
- Reduced expenditures (no need to pay for trainers’ accommodation and tickets)
- Easier to keep professional expertise of central office employees and branch offices employees at the same level
- Easier communication and knowledge exchange using chats, forums, conferences
- Statistics generation (tracking students’ attendance, progress, level, etc.)
- Possible to do a proper certification
These advantages of online learning, motivated the Russian branch of Harman to launch an internal LMS (learning management system) in the company.
Harman case
Before the LMS implementation
Earlier, the introduction of new products to employees and partners was done by sending emails with presentations. Quite obviously, this was not very efficient as almost nobody was studying these materials properly.
The desire to improve this situation led to the implementation of a corporate LMS. The new system was supposed to make the product introduction more entertaining and interactive and give the users an opportunity to evaluate their knowledge and get quick feedback.
What has been done
Having compared different platforms, the company chose Moodle, one of the most popular open-source platforms for online education (more about the platform in this article).
ISDK performed the implementation of the platform, configured the learning environment, and prepared accompanying documents. We created a demo-training and a quiz for knowledge assessment. As a part of the project, we also trained employees.
Result
The new LMS has met key client requirements – they find a way to consolidate all the products’ materials and present information to their internal personnel as well as external partners. Apart from that, the new studying platform not only makes students get familiar with the materials, but it also ensures they comprehend information deeply enough to communicate it to the end-consumers. The project was completed at the beginning of 2020, the platform is now being actively used for internal education: all the existing expertise is now transferred to the online format. Later, Harman plans to give its partners access to the platform.
