Ordering automation: eCommerce Core, Online Store, Shipping & Payment Integrations

eCommerce for Belgian Diving Association in MS Azure-Article poster

Objectives

Introduce a new e-commerce distribution channel of branded goods. Grow sales, improve the quality of customer service, and reduce operational costs.

А Flemish league for diving sports, a community of 150 diving clubs in Flanders, Belgium.

Challenges

Background

Nelos offers educational programs and event activities for its members. They also sell various branded products for divers and instructors. Until recently, such orders were handled manually. That was not customer-friendly and adversely affected sales.

Besides, it led to an expensive order processing routine for the operations team. Manual operations were not effective:

  • Longer time to calculate the delivery cost and create shipping orders
  • Invoices needed to be manually synched with accountants
  • Additional routine checks against document storage

Orders were handled manually, which caused a lot of inconveniences.

Solution

What has been done

To help the client streamline the whole ordering process, we launched an e-commerce Core functionality consisting of the following:

  • A modern-looking webshop with interactive UI design in line with the corporate brand book
  • Setting up rules for automatic discount application based on a client role
  • Invoicing docs synch
  • Setting up rules for delivery cost calculation
  • Integration with BPost (delivery service)
  • Integration with Mollie (payment system)

From a technical standpoint, Nelos requested a solution deployed using Cloud techniques. Thus, their devops engineers could further maintain the environment. Nelos chose cloud deployment in Microsoft Azure, so we did.

Technology

  • Microsoft Azure cloud
  • nopCommerce platform,4. version
  • Microsoft .Net Core for custom features and integration

For budgeting purposes, Nelos struggled to choose the right Azure service plan for the systems. So that it would be the best option from a performance and cost point of view. To accomplish that, our team deployed several environments to test different options. Finally, we chose one that best fitted the monthly budget and provided decent performance.

During implementation, we deployed several environments to test the solution and choose the right Azure service plan for the systems
